Stephen Barber

Stephen Barber (3 February 1952, St. Pancras — 19 September 2020, London) was a distinguished British luthier and maker of historical instruments, such as lutes, vihuelas, fluted-back vihuelas, Baroque guitars, archlutes, chitarrone, theorbos, orpharions, bandoras, and citterns. Barber began making lutes, vihuelas, and early guitars in 1972. Since 1986 and for the rest of his life, Stephen worked in a partnership with his wife, Sandra "Sandi" Harris. They are often cited as the first modern luthiers to revive fluted-back vihuelas.
