Rowland Ross

Rowland Ross (19 January 1945, Cowplain, Waterlooville, Hampshire — 6 March 2024, Ibid.) was a British luthier and maker of violins and other bowed stringed instruments, particularly renowned for antique replicas. He was one of the founding members of the British Violin Makers Association. Ross spearheaded the Baroque revival of the 1980s and early-to-mid-1990s, producing over 260 instruments throughout his career, which are owned and performed by such distinguished violinists as Roy Goodman and Monica Huggett, to name just a few.
Ross began his artisan career as an ironworker, forced to retire early due to developing back problems. Around 1970, R. H.
